Born in Milan in 1958, photographer Giampaolo Vimercati first came to light in 1984 while working on Italian fashion publishing.
Based in Paris, he specialized in fashion, beauty and advertising, collaborating with numerous French and global publications.
A fan of sports and lover of speed, Giampaolo built his talent capturing moving subjects.
His perspective often captures unusual details while exploring unexpected points of view.
Gifted with a peculiar sensitivity in balancing light and shadow, he knows how to glamorously depict the strength and beauty of an action.
The first remarkable showcase of his ability appeared on a reportage on the stage of Roland Garros, with tennis superstars Nadal and Federer. He subsequently photographed numerous world-class athletes, such as Sébastien Chabal, Camille Lacourt, and Andy Roddick, for advertising campaigns (Perfumes Caron, Clarins Men, Lacoste Challenge). He crafted photo-editorials in prestigious magazines like Vanity Fair, Sport & Style and L’Uomo Vogue, photographing Zlatan Ibrahimovich, Nicolas Anelka, Morgan Parra, Vincent Clerc, and Byron Kelleher.
After acquiring a thoroughbred, he started experimenting with horse photography. His work for the Palio di Siena has seen widespread exposure in Italy and France between 2000 and 2002.
In the following years, he realized numerous advertisement campaigns for “France Galop”, a French company that organize national flat racing and obstacle and the 2013 equitation brochure for French fashion house Hermè.
In 2010 he is hired by the Association of Jockeys for an important reportage for the exposition “Les sportifs de l’extreme”, entirely dedicated to the world of horse racing. On this project, Giampaolo Vimercati illustrated the intense and dangerous job of the jockey.
Following the great success of the Deauville expo, eight of these images are selected for a monumental exposition in front of the tribunes of the Chantilly racetrack, installed during the Prix du Jockey Club and the Diane Longines in June 2012.
Giampaolo Vimercati is currently exhibited on a new exposition, “Hippodrome d’Auteuil, le Temple de l’obstacle”, which it’s actually in place from 19 May to 17 November 2013.
Also in the making is a photo book on his perception of the relationship between man and horse and the world of horceraces.
